Musikgarten

Welcome to Musik with Candia!

Music is fun! It preserves cultural heritage and builds community while also meeting a basic emotional need and fostering self-discipline, goal-setting, problem solving, self-control, expression and sensitivity. Musical activities also facilitate language development and strengthen a child's ability to reason in disciplines such as higher mathematics and science.

Did you know that a baby's brain doubles in size in their first year? And also that the period of greatest neurological development is from birth to 6 years? During this time a child's brain is making connections from neuron to neuron at a rate which will never again be repeated in their lifetime. When certain connections are not made during these formative years, learning must go through different and more complex pathways. As a child grows, the neural connection rate slows and certain learning windows pass. Children are born musical, so now is the time to nurture that innate musicality!

The Musikgarten curriculum is written by early childhood development and music experts. This holistic approach appeals to all learning styles and leads us to understand the child and how they learn. Holistic education reaches the WHOLE child and the WHOLE musician.

Some general objectives are:
  • to aid the family in making music a part of home life;
  • to give children and families fun and educational musical experiences;
  • to develop motor & impulse control, spatial awareness, creativity and listening & social skills;
  • to offer a safe environment in which ideas are shared and learning can occur;
  • to build confidence and self-esteem;
  • to cultivate a child's appreciation and respect for their natural surroundings and for individuals they share their home, community and world with; and
  • to lead the child to music literacy and a lifetime of music-making.
  • I look forward to answering your questions and welcoming your family into my music studio. Come for a free trial class and find out why we at Musikgarten say "come for the fun, stay for the education!"
